Rachel R. (Dodd) Gooch was the daughter of John & Martha Patsy (Barnes) Dodd. She was the wife of William M. 'Bill' Gooch. They married on 29 Jul 1866 in Lumpkin County, Georgia. This union produced some 10 children: 1.) James Martin, born 21 Aug 1867 & died 25 Jun 1950., 2.) John 'Harve', born 05 Feb 1870 & died 19 Jan 1948., 3.) Amanda 'Mandy', born 22 Nov 1871 & died 06 Jun 1944., 4.) Mary 'Jane', born 08 Mar 1874 & died 07 Nov 1957., 5.) Samuel 'Sam' H., born 09 Aug 1876 & died 24 Jan 1960., 6.) Charlie, born 28 Feb 1877 & died 28 Mar 1885., 7.) Sarah, born abt 1879 & died abt 1930., 8.) Joseph 'Joe' Henry, born 02 Feb 1882 & died 26 Nov 1964., 9.) Charles, born abt 1884 & died 03 May 1895., and 10.) Laura 'Babe' GOOCH, born 04 Jun 1887 & died 01 Sep 1965! - A popular story from Bill Gooch's notebook states that Rachel and Nancy Dodd walked north from Atlanta during the heights of the Civil War. However, some think that walk was from just across the mountains from Dahlonega. We know that they, along with 2 brothers and one sister were living in Dahlonega in 1860 just before the Civil War broke out. However, they could have moved from Atlanta to Dahlonega just prior to the 1860 census being taken. Con't from Bill Gooch's notebook: "Grand Ma Rachel was 92 years old when she died. Her mother was known as Granny Dodd and was a midwife in the Community for many years!
