Charles A. Akers, 89, formerly of Parkersburg, passed away February 7, 2008, at Memorial Medical Hospital, Springfield, Ill.
He was born July 29, 1918, in Charleston and was a son of the late Dorsey R. and Fatima Todd Akers.
Charles was retired from E.I. DuPont as a production supervisor after 40 years of service. He was a member of Stout Memorial United Methodist Church, a life member of the Elks, a 32nd degree Mason and was a US Navy veteran during World War II. He was a 60-year member of the Boy Scouts of America, which was his love.
Surviving are his four children, Charles A. Akers II of Wilmington, N.C., F. Michael Akers of Marietta, Ohio, Judy Ridinger of Springfield, Ill., and Mary Brookover of Burlison, Tenn.; 13 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Della J. Akers, in 2004.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, Feb. 15, at Stout Memorial United Methodist Church, Broad St., Parkersburg, with the Rev. Scott Sears officiating. Interment will follow at 3 p.m. in Tyler Mountain Memory Gardens, Cross Lanes.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Lambert-Tatman Funeral Home, Green St., Parkersburg.
Memorials may be made to Boy Scout Troop 12 at Stout Memorial United Methodist Church.
