George was born on his father's ranch in Custer County near Westcliffe, CO. He was a 1936 graduate of Custer County High School, and attended Midwest College of Commerce in Pueblo, CO the next two winters. On June 2, 1944 he graduated from Western State College at Gunnison, CO, and in November of that year, he moved to Alamosa, CO to work as engineer and announcer at radio station KGIW. He left KGIW in late 1948.
On April 6, 1949, he went to work for Montgomery Ward as a service manager and service technician. He also went back to work at KGIW in 1951 and worked there until he retired in 1988. He worked for Wards until the store was closed on Feb. 3, 1986, at which point he retired.
George married Evelyn Willadee Milligan in the Foursquare Church in Monte Vista, CO on Jan. 20, 1946. The Rev. Joe B. Pippin performed the ceremony. The witnesses were Miss Madeliene Hutton and Mr. Lloyd Allen.
