Leon was the third child of Marion Archibald and Cloe "Donoho" Mordecai. He was born in Chillicothe, Hardiman Co., TX. He attended Centerpoint & Kings High School.
He entered the U.S. Marine Corps in October 1940 and was in the 4th Marine Division for the Marshall Islands, Tinian and Iowa Jima Operations in WWII as a Gunnery Sergeant. He received Personal Citations and the Bronze Star. He was in the 1st Marine Division in the Korean War with the rank of 1st Lieutenant. He served one year in Korea with seven months in combat. He received the Navy Citation with ribbon and Combat V. medals. He retired in 1961, with the rank of Captain.
Leon married (1) Ann Smith of San Diego, CA. She had two sons, Charles Jacob "Jack" and Michael Fredrick Eusey. They divorced in 1954. He married (2) Patricia Ellen Shimp in Encinitas, CA, on 8 Jan 1958. He adopted Patricia's two small sons, Ted Lloyd and Timothy Carl. Leon moved to Whitesboro, TX in 1961 when he retired from the U.S.M.C. with the rank of Captain.
Timothy Carl was killed in an oilfield accident at the age of 22. Leon's sons and daughter all live in the North TX area.
Leon is buried in Belew Cemetery next to his father, Archie, and mother, Cloe.
