John M. DaSilva, resident of Lowell's Back Central neighborhood for more than 30 years and an active member of the Portuguese community.He was the husband of Niveria E. (Bettencourt) DaSilva, to whom he was married for 35 years. A native of Portugal's Azores Islands, he was born on the island of Graciosa on Sept. 15, 1931, a son of the late Manuel and Maria F. (Pacheco) DaSilva. He was educated in both Portugal and in the United States. Mr. DaSilva came to the United States in 1965 to raise his family.

Mr. DaSilva well known throughout the Portuguese community in Lowell, according to family members, and was fluent at translating Portuguese to English. He was a member of the Portuguese-American Club, and the "Blues Club." He also enjoyed reading.
