Edgar and Grace married on 26 Aug 1926. Edgar Fred Vestal, was born 05 Sep 1890 in OR. (His family was living in Lane Co. in 1900.) He passed away 19 Dec 1984, also in Benton County. This data comes from the Oregon Death Index, various Census records and a few other documents.
Edgar served during WWI. Vestal and two other Oregonians served in the unit as well.
Vestal, at 94 years, he seems to be the longest lived survivor of the unit, at least among its officers. He and Grace appear to have been quite the world travelers, as he was an educator and botanist/plant pathologist, who rec'd his BS at Oregon State, his MS from the Univ. of WI, and his PhD. from IA State. He taught at several colleges and lived abroad a good deal of the time, some of that for the State Department. Grace's name pops up in the local Ames, IA paper a good bit where she gave talks about her India experience.
