Robert "Sonny" R. D. Norred is the son of Robert L. Norred
born 27 Dec 1896 in Alabama; died 7 April 1922 in Sylacauga, Talladega, Alabama. Mother Lula Howell (maiden name) Norred born abt. 1896 in Alabama; died 26 Aug 1980 in Alabama. Both of his parents are buried in the Marble City Cemetery, Sylacauga, Talladega, Alabama. After Robert "Sonny" father died in 1922 when Sonny was about 3 years old, his mother Lula remarried an unknown Bradford. By the 1930 census Lula Bradford was listed again as a widow.

Robert's first wife Baby "Ruth" Tinney Norred. No further information is known as of 5 May 2010.

Robert "Sonny" was a Steel Guitar player in the original"Drifting Cowboys" and played with Hank Williams, Sr. Robert was paid fifty dollars a week regardless of whether they worked because he had a family to support, the others were paid around seven dollars. Sonny was a member of the Cowboys from late 1947 to early 1948. He worked with Hank on WSFA.

After working with Hank he worked in the Cotton Mills in Talladega, Alabama for 7 years. He played music in his free time. He later joined Hal Howard and the Pearl River Boys and played with them for 10 years. He then worked in Mac Sanders TROUBADORES. He could be heard on WRBL Radio, Birmingham, Alabama

He later opened his own TV Sales/Service business called Norred TV.

Robert "Sonny" passed away on 25 October 2009, with his wife of 32 years, Margaret White Norred, by his side. Robert is buried in the Tallapoosa County Memory Gardens, Dadeville, Tallapoosa, Alabama.

Funeral service for Mr. Robert D. Norred age 90 of Dadeville, AL will held 2:00 P.M. Tuesday, October 27, 2009 at the Chapel of Alabama Funeral Homes in Dadeville, AL with graveside following in Tallapoosa Co. Memory Gardens with James Crouch & David McMichael officiating. Family will Greet friends from 6:00 to 8:00 Monday October 26, 2008 at the funeral home.

Mr. Norred is survived by his wife Mary Margaret Norred of Dadeville, AL ; two sons John Stoney ( Debra) Norred of Creola, AL and Robert Leon ( Lynn) of Sylacauga, AL; three daughters Linda Gail (Carl) Weathers of Sylacauga, AL, Debbie White Slycauga, AL and Dorothy (Rickey) Haywood of Elba, AL; one sister Sarah McGuire of Sylacauga, AL; 8 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren & 8 great great great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, three grandchildren, two great grandchildren, two brothers, and three sisters.

Norred was owner of Norred T.V. Repair of Hwy 280 Dadeville and Childersburg. He also served his country in the United States Marine Corps during WWII.

Alabama Funeral Homes of Dadeville are in charge of the arrangements.
