SP4 James Earl Hopkins, Vietnam Veteran, Native of Lucama, North Carolina.

Specialist Four James Earl Hopkins was a casualty of the Vietnam War. As a member of the Army Selective Service and a Draftee, SP4 Hopkins served our country until June 1st, 1968 in Go Cong, South Vietnam. He was 21 years old and was not married. James died from suffocation. His body was recovered. James was born on June 25th, 1946 in Lucama, North Carolina. SP4 Hopkins is on panel 61W, line 002 of the Vietnam Memorial Wall in Washington D.C. He served our country for one year.

God give you peace. I was very young when you served and died but my mom told me about your death and I didn't understand then but now I do. I grew up to know your brothers and I wish I could have known you too. Man may make mistakes but God never does. May He give you peace. Love you "cuz"! We won't forget you! Johnnie Hopkins.

James loved to play basketball, if you needed to find him, he was on the court. He was a talented singer who was in every talent show he could enter. Eddie Hopkins

He is the son of Mr Leroy and Mrs Martha Lee Barnes Hopkins, of Lucama, North Carolina.

He served with Alpha Company, 3rd Battalion, 60th Infantry Regiment, 9th Infantry Division,"Old Reliables", USARV.

He was awarded The Combat Infantryman's Badge(CIB), The Vietnam Service Medal, The Republic of Vietnam Campaign Service Medal, The National Defense Service Medal.
