|Birth: ||Apr., 1878|
San Francisco County
|Death: ||Jul. 25, 1878|
Buried beside his mother, Amelia "Ida" (Lesley) Duniway. Charlie was born in San Francisco, California in April 1878 to Ida Lesley and Hubert Duniway where Hubert's mother, Abigail Scott Duniway, had sent them because "Ida" was pregnant and they were not married. Charlie's grandmother, Abigail Scott Duniway, brought the 3-month-old Charlie back to Oregon on a steamer ship. Abigail reported that she had adopted Charlie who was a "precious little orphaned waif" and "The change of food and hardships of the journey on a cold and crowded ship caused him to die within a week" (reported in Abigail's "New Northwest" Editorial Correspondence of 1 Aug. 1878, Page 2). Amelia "Ida" Lesley married Hubert in 1881 after they had another trist and "Ida" died in 1882 "supposedly" from TB. How sad it must have been for Ida to lose this infant. See "Rebel for Rights" by Ruth Moynihan a book about Abigail Scott Duniway and her bizarre ideas about children born out of wedlock.
Ida was buried beside her son, Charlie Duniway.
