Notes-I have the original document issued by the United States Department of Interior Bureau of Pensions dated May 16, 1891, granting Sarah J. Bohannon, widow of William H. Bohannon, an $8 per month pension, with an additional $2 per month each for two children under age 16, retroactive to July 18, 1890. Those children are: Mack L. and Wyatt J. Mack was 8 yrs. old at the time. This pension was based on William Henderson Bohannon's service as a "Private, Co. D, 1st Regiment, Arkansas Volunteer Infantry." As you know, Arkansas was a Confederate state, but the "Mountain Men" of NW Ark fought for the Union.
There were two separate Bohannan families in Madison County in the middle and late 1800's and early 1900's. There was the Bohannan Mt Bohannans and the Clifty Bohannans.I am most familiar with the Bohannan Mt family as my g-grandfather Mack was a brother to Marion Calhoun Bohannan. Marion was a son of Sarah Jane McNatt and William Henderson Bohannan, but he never married. He is in the 1930 census in Riverside CA living near his niece, Thelma Laney and her family. Sula or Sulia Warren married Elijah Marion Bohannan of the "Clifty Bohannans"
