A.V. Christian

Church Hill - A.V. Christian, 76, of 516 Old Union Road, passed away Sunday (Oct. 17, 2004) at the Indian Path Medical Center following an extended illness.

Mr. Christian was a lifelong resident of Hawkins County and was a member of the Elm Springs United Methodist Church. He was retired from the Penn-Dixie Cement Company and worked for the City of Church Hill for several years. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, having served in World War II.

He was preceded in death by his parents, J.D. and Cora Carter Christian; five brothers, Bob, Ben, J.W., Charles "Buck" and Johnny Christian; and one sister, Denean DeWald.

Survivors include his wife, Helen Helton Christian, Church Hill; three sons and daughters-in-law, Edward Allen Christian, Church Hill, Martin and Terry Christian, Gray, Marvin and Connie Christian, Church Hill; one daughter and son-in-law, Vicki Lynn and David Hunley, Surgoinsville; grandchildren, Misti Dawn Larkins and husband, Bryan, Adam Christian and wife, Becca, Lilly Christian, Jeremy Christian, Jennifer Christian; one brother, Garnie Christian, Kingsport; two sisters, Vesta Berry, Kingsport, and Dorothy Price, Bristol; several nieces and nephews.

Calling hours are from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Johnson Funeral Home, Church Hill, and anytime at the residence.

Services will be conducted at 8 p.m. today in the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Mike Cutshaw and the Rev. Maurice Lay officiating.

Graveside services will be conducted Thursday at 11 a.m. at Church Hill Memory Gardens.

Serving as pallbearers are Fred Armstrong, Ivan Armstrong, Adam Christian, Frank Marsh, Johnny Livesay, Gerald Caldwell, David Smith and Everette Rutledge.

Honorary bearers will be members of United Methodist Men of Elm Springs United Methodist Church.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Elm Springs United Methodist Church or the Church Hill Rescue Squad.
