Dr. Towsey emigrated from England to Texas to study yellow fever.

He married Elizabeth Hall in March 1849 in Brazoria County, Texas, possibly Liverpool. He married Josephine McGreal after the death of his first wife.

They had five children including Samuel, Mary E., Thomas "Todd" Jefferson, Walter and Louisiana.

Elizabeth preceded him in death.

He was buried in Old Catholic Cemetery. When the the 1900 Storm came to Galveston, the gravesite was buried under another six feet of rubble and debris, so there is no visible headstone anymore. The cemetery picture is an approximate location of where he might have been buried.
