Jane Linira Long Sides

Mrs. Sides, a native Charlottean, passed away October 19, 2005. A graduate of Thomasboro High School, Mrs. Sides worked for The Federal Reserve Bank prior to her marriage to John Sides. Their marriage of 57 years produced two daughters, Grace Sides Williamson of Florence, SC and Elizabeth Sides Lineberger (Mrs. Terry) of Charlotte.
Mrs. Sides was an active and dedicated member of McGee Presbyterian Church, which later became Pleasant Grove Presbyterian. In service to her church, Mrs. Sides shared her God given talents by singing in the Chancel Choir and teaching high school and young adult Sunday School classes for many years. She served her denomination as White Cross Chairman helping to meet the needs of Presbyterian missionaries, as Bible Moderator for her circle and as President of the Women of the Church. For her service she was given a Life Membership in the Presbyterian Church in 1986.
In addition to her church work, Mrs. Sides was a member of Long Creek Chapter of the Eastern Star, and served for over 25 years on the Board of Presbyterian Hospital Women's Auxiliary. She considered her privilege as Scholarship Chairman her most rewarding as she helped so many become nurses.
Mrs. Sides also helped in the community, being one of the first to participate in the Mother's March of Dimes, and often helped in her voting precinct by driving others to the polls in the early 1960's. Mrs. Sides was also a rural census taker, going from farm to farm literally counting members of households and livestock.
Her greatest joy, however, was her family. A devoted wife and mother, Mrs. Sides participated in the PTA and enjoyed working Bar-B-Ques for what was then known as Coulwood Junior High.
Mrs. Sides is survived by her loving husband, John; her mother-in-law, Mrs. Myrtle Sides; her two daughters; son-in-law, Terry Lineberger; and grandson, Andrew. She was preceded in death by two granddaughters, Rachael Lineberger and Meredith Williamson.

Visitation will be from 7-8:30 PM Thursday evening in the Fellowship Hall of Pleasant Grove Presbyterian Church.
