Robert "Bob" L. Dodge, 75, died peacefully March 2, 2009, at his home in Willow after a valiant battle with cancer. His family was by his side. A service with a viewing was held at Grandview Baptist Church, 1300 Columbine St., in Anchorage.
Mr. Dodge was born July 5, 1933, in Moscow, Idaho, to Frank and Helen Dodge of Nova Scotia. He married his sweetheart, Mary Ann Rice, on Dec. 29, 1955, in Seattle. He served in the U.S. Army from 1950-1955, was a veteran of the Korean War and was awarded a Bronze Star for his service. Before coming to Alaska in 1970 with his family to work for the Alaska State Parks, He was a State Parks Ranger in Washington. He lived in Anchorage from 1970-1973, Whittier from 1973-1976, and Anchorage from 1976-1999, before moving to his home in Willow.
Mr. Dodge retired as an electrician with the Civil Service at Fort Richardson in 1998. His hobbies included hunting, fishing and woodworking. He was a faithful member of the Hidden Hills Sovereign Grace Baptist Church in Willow. His family wrote:
"He was a born-again believer who loved his Lord and savior and was ready to go to his home eternal. His greatest joys were in serving the Lord and in fellowship with his Christian family."
Mr. Dodge is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Mary Ann Dodge; son and daughter-in-law, Allen and Sara Dodge of Greenbrier, Ark.; daughter and son-in-law, Ann Marie and Shane Davey of Anchorage; son and daughter-in-law, Mike and Linda Dodge of Kenai; 18 grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Lauretta Allen; grandson, Nicholas; two sisters; and three brothers.
Arrangements are with Witzleben Legacy Funeral Home.
