Son of, James William Duke & Mattie Belle Hughey Duke.
Ernest Earl Duke, was apprenticed as a stone mason. He was also, a police officer in St. Louis, Missouri. He did some teaching and, tried several times going back to Missouri to be a farmer but, he never made it as a farmer. As a stone mason, he worked on Mount Rushmore and, the road over Tioga Pass into Yosemite. He carved the gargoyels on the old federal building in San Francisco and, the stone bears that stand on the California side of Klamath River.
