Last Rites Held for Arthur Sims Tuesday
Obit summary; Arthur M. Sims, 79, died February 9 at his home. The Rev. Clyde Thompson, pastor of the First Baptist church officiated, burial in family plot in Douglas Park.
Arthur M. Sims was born September 5, 1877 in Harwood, Texas, the son of Dr. J. H. and Susan Catherine Sims. As a young man he worked as a telegrapher in Georgia, in 1900 he came to Douglas where he took a job herding sheep for the Mountain Valley Sheep Co., later becoming manager. When his brothers Albert and Chester came from Texas, they purchased the Mountain Valley outfit, which they operated until 1913. Mr. Sims then entered the cattle business and played a prominent role until his retirement a few years ago.
On December 9, 1931, he married Margaret G. Numrick at Douglas, three children born to union. They are Arthur M. Sims Jr. serving in the US NAVY, Mrs. George Bluze of Denver and Allen Lee at home. Also surviving are three brothers; James, Chester and Albert all of Douglas and two sisters; Mrs. Claudia Dalton of St. Petersburg, Fla. And Mrs. Victoria Pritchard of Cleveland, Ohio.
Mr. Sims was highly respected member of the community, confirmed in the Baptist church, member of the Masonic lodge.
