Blauvelt, in Business Nearly 40 Years, Dies
Basil M. Blauvelt, 86, for nearly 40 years a Santa Barbara businessman, died late yesterday in a local hospital. He lived at 1329 Salsipuedes St.
Behind the counter of his tobacco and magazine store, he was a widely known personality in Santa Barbara and was a man who retired from business twice.

So, at 80 years, he went back in business again, purchasing a cigar and magazine stand in the lobby of a hotel. He stayed in business this time for about three-and-a-half years, retiring the second time a little over two years ago.
Mr. Blauvelt becaame seriously ill about a week ago and was taken to the hospital.
He was born in Belmore, Ohio, and came to California 45 years ago. He came to Santa Barbara in 1909.
Surviving in addition to his wife Nellie is a daughter, Mrs. Harold Cooper of Alburqueque, N. Mex., and a granddaughter, Nancy Cooper, 15.
Funeral arrangements are pending.
