OBITUARY - COMFORT FOR BEREAVED
As the sufferings of Christ abound in us, so our consolation also aboundeth by Christ.---II Corinthians 1:5.
Henry Samuel Byers, aged 80 years, of 49 East North Street, Waynesboro, PA, died at 6:15 a.m. today at the home of his son, Wilbur D. Byers, 102 East North Street, where he had been confined to his bed for the last four weeks.
Mr. Byers was born at Mercersburg, PA, the son of Jacob and Sarah (Strike) Byers. He made his home in Waynesboro since 1900, coming here from Chewsville, MD. He was employed in Waynesboro shops until 1913 when he took up farming west of Waynesboro. He again took up residence here in 1938. He retired from farming ten years ago when he became blind.
He was a member of the Church of the Brethern and was the last of a family of nine children.
His wife, Effa (Anthony) Byers, died in February 1938.
Surviving are four sons and one daughter: Glenn, Wilbur, Lee and Edgar, all of Waynesboro, and Mrs. Roscoe (Helen) Hicks of Cearfoss, MD; six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be held at 1:30 p.m. Sunday at his home, 49 East North Street, with services in the Church of the Brethern at 2 p.m., in charge of the Rev. George L. Detwiler. Burial will be made in Price's cemetery. The body may be viewed at the late home from 7 until 9 p.m. Saturday.
