Elizabeth was born Hannah Elizabeth Porter, daughter of Odber Porter and Elizabeth Cheney. She was the youngest and last child, as Elizabeth died in childbirth. She went by Elizabeth the rest of her life.
She came to the United States around 1881/1882.
On 6 June 1883, she married Hartford S. Hunter in Houlton, Maine. They had a daughter, Alta Mabel Hunter, in 1885. Hartford died in 1889. On 24 June, 1889, Elizabeth married Joseph Coffey in Houlton, Maine. They had 4 children that lived to adulthood: Clara Mae, Joseph Francis, Sadie Elizabeth, and Hannah Isabelle. She was living with Isabelle at the time of her death, after a long illness.
