E. A. Fudge, 4th Corporal, Company I, 1st Regiment, Arkansas Mounted Rifles, C.S.A.
Son of Daniel C and Martha Girtman Fudge.

Eugene Alonzo Fudge was born in Houston County, Georgia. He enlisted in the Civil War on July 27, 1861, in Pine Bluff, Arkansas, and served in Company I, Arkansas Mounted Rifles. He was discharged at Jamestown, North Carolina, on April 28, 1865.

He married Henrietta Emma --?-- on February 17, 1870, in Ashley County, Arkansas. In 1880 Eugene A, 35, farmer, and wife Henrietta E Fudge, 28, were listed in Bearhouse, Ashley County, Arkansas, with children Louis D, 9; Albert E, 6; Robert A, 4; and Dudley D, 1; and also mother-in-law Harriet A Haltom, 53, born Alabama; sister-in-law Mary A. Cammack, 18, born Arkansas; and farm laborer Daniel L Abbott, 19, born Louisiana.

On January 14, 1899, the Fudges filed an application in Shelby County, Texas, to change their surname from Fudge to Cammack. The application included Eugene A, Henrietta, Lewis D, Albert, Dudley D, Emma C, Marietta, Homer, and Brooksey B Fudge. The last 5 were minors under the age of 21 years. Henrietta later stated the family had moved to Texas, and Shelby County, on December 20, 1889.

In the 1900 federal census, the Cammacks were listed in Shelby County, Texas, with 7 children, all born in Arkansas: Louis D., 29, Albert E., 26, Dudley, 21, Emma C[ornelia], 18, Homer, 15, Marietta, 13, and Brooksie, 8.
