HALLSVILLE [Harrison Co.], TX—
Donald Ray Alford went home to be with Jesus on February 11, 2010 after a brave battle with MDS and heart disease. He was born February 02, 1938 in Magnolia, MS and grew up in New Orleans. He graduated from Northwestern State University in Natchitoches and moved to Shreveport Bossier area to work. He was a born again Christian and was a member of First Baptist Church Hallsville, Texas. Mr. Alford was an ordained deacon and a former Gideon. He was looking forward to a glass of wine with Jesus.
Don was preceded in death by his first love and the mother of his children, Eva Mae Alford; son, Barry Alford; sister, Shirley Pelas and a grandson, Blake Hickman.
He is survived by his wife, Bessie Woodell Alford; sons, Don Alford and wife Patricia of Cypress, TX; Eric Alford and wife Lisa of Keller, TX, Shawn Alford and wife Ann of Hattiesburg, MS; Paul Hickman of Vivian, LA and Darren Hickman of Orange, TX; daughters, Susan McKissick and husband Tony of Jackson, TN, Susan Crenshaw and husband Fred of Hallsville, TX; 12 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren.
The family will receive visitors from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m., on Sunday, February 14, 2010 at Downs Funeral Home, Marshall, Texas.
The homegoing celebration will be held at 2:00 p.m., Monday, February 15, 2010 in the Chapel of Downs Funeral Home. A graveside service will be held at 4:00 p.m. at Hillcrest Cemetery, Bossier City. Downs Funeral Home, Marshall, TX 903-927-1700.
