Services were held Saturday afternoon for Kathryn Hett, 67, well known and highly admired lifetime resident of the Marion/Aulne Kansas community.
Kathryn Anne Hett was born in Marion, July 16, 1932, to Edward and Anna (Ehrlich) Popp. She died May 18, 2000.
School years were in Marion where she graduated as valedictorian from Marion High School in 1950. She then attended Tabor College for courses in business and used those skills in various positions, retiring from her last job as office manager of Prairie View's Marion Office.
Music was an immportant part of her life. She began playing the pipe organ at Emmanuel Baptist Church at age 16 and claimed it as her favorite pastime. All her children were encouraged to at least try playing an instrument and she enjoyed helping them grow in their appreciation of music.
On September 4, 1953, Kathryn and John D. Hett of Aulne were united in marriage.
Together they had a long and rich tradition of helping anyone in need and hosting many family members and friends in their home. The marriage was blessed with the joy of her life, five children, and 16 grandchildren.
She is survived by her husband John; three sons; Ed and wife Jean of Wichita, Eldon and wife Rhonda of Marion, David and wife Michelle of Marion; two daughters; Debra and husband Wayne Geis of Durham, Janet and husband Bruce of Wichita; grandchildren Eddie Krissy, Forrest Hett of Wichita, Jerod, Justin, Shawna Hett of Marion, Torey, Kate, Phoebe Hett of Marion, Logan, Lauren, Lisa Geis of Durham. Calvin, Monica, Lewis, and one "due shortly" Plank of Wichita; sister Irma Farrar of Norwich; and brother Ralph Popp of Marion.
Because of her love for hosting others and her concern for the lives of children, a memorial has been established at Emmanuel Baptist Church to assist in completion of the church patio, and to establish a scholarship fund to assist with sending children to church camp.
A committal service was held at Marion Cemetary for members of the immediate family
