Loyd Earl (Buss) Christopher, 85, of Worthington, passed away at the Arbors At Fairmont Tuesday (Feb. 10, 2009). Loyd was born in Maidsville on July 26, 1923, son of the late Richard and Arminta Connor Cristopher.Loyd was a graduate of the former University High School in Morgantown with the class of 1942. He was a World War II veteran where he served as an U.S. Navy Seabee in many islands of the South Pacific. He worked for 32 years at the Four States Mime of Consol Energy and was a Member of the U.M.W.A. Loyd enjoyed camping, hunting, fishing and gardening until his illness. He loved spending time with his family. He was a Methodist by faith.Loyd is survived by his beloved wife of 62 years, Elizabeth Mae Salisbury Christopher; two sons and their wives, Ronald and Tanya Christopher of Parks, Ariz. and David and Marsha Christopher of Idamay; four grandsons and their wives, Tobin Christopher of Garden Grove, Calif., Todd and Debbie Christopher of Flagstaff, Ariz., Chad and Dawniele Christopher of Bunner's Ridge and Derrick and Tiffany Christopher of Hutchinson; four great-grandchildren, Ryan, Caitlyn, Braydon and Douglas Christopher; two step-grandchildren, Mariah and Michaela Luckey; four sisters and their husbands, Ava Belle Hull of Valperaiso, Ind., Betty and Ted Jones of Keene, Texas, Ruth and Russ Strouse of Mechanicsburg, Pa. and Sherry and Donald Crawford of Palm Beach, Fla.; two brothers and their wives, George and Willa Christopher of Sparta, Fla. and James and Julie Christopher of Morgantown; one brother-in-law and wife, Paul and Juanita Salisbury; six sister-in-laws and their husbands, Catherine Christopher, Flora Christopher, Beatrice and James Mills, Mary Salisbury, Shirley and Charles Dean and Virginia and Aaron Ruble; and several nieces and nephews.In addition to his parents, Loyd was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Carrie Rebecca Christopher; and three brothers, John, Olan and William Christopher.Following the wishes of the deceased there will be a private family service at 11:30 a.m. Friday at the Grandview Memorial Gardens Mausoleum Chapel in Fairmont with Pastor Sabrina Haught officiating. Family may gather at the Domico Funeral Home, 414 Gaston Ave., Fairmont, at 10 a.m. to proceed to the cemetery. Marion County Veteran Council will conduct full military rites at the cemetery.
