Born in Galveston, Texas, the son of Southern Baptist parents, Lee Alexander converted to Catholicism at a young age and attended Huston-Tollotson College where he received a BA in sociology.
After graduating from Our Lady of the Lake University in 1972 with an MSW he began a career in social service in Texas and Tennessee.
While in Memphis he became active at St. Patrick's Parish, grew close to the Paulists and entered the Community in 1983.
Just months after beginning his theological studies at St. Paul's College in the Fall of 1984 he was diagnosed with liver cancer. He underwent treatment for the disease and continued his pastoral and theological training. Shortly after making Final Profession in the Paulists his medical condition worsened significantly. Unable to attend his previously scheduled diaconate ordination in April he died soon after.
