Joseph is the son of Joseph T. Casey and Catherine Hanley. He married Catherine McElroy, of Chippewa Falls, Wisconsin. They had six children, Margaret or Margie who died in 1920, Margaret Lorraine born 1918, Francis or Frank, born in 1920, Eleanor born in 1921, Dorothy born in 1923, and James Michael born in 1930. Joeseph was brought up in the lumber business in the Stillwater area. He was a Teamster.
He was my grandfather. I have very fond memories of my time with him. My parents bought a house around the corner from Joe and Kate when I was born. They lived on the 1600 block of 16th Avenue North. My Mom and I visited with them most every day when my Dad was at work. I remember a large 'garage' that had two horses in it. One of the horses was very big, and I think I remember being told it was a Belgium. He had worked for the City of Minneapolis plowing snow with his team. Joe and Kate moved from North Minneapolis to Brooklyn Center in 1953. They were one of the first home owners in the area of 57th and Knox. When I was young, preschool, he would come and pick me up and we would go for a beer. It was a fun trip to the root beer stand in Osseo. We would then stop at the farm of Earle Brown. That was a beautiful farm and grandpa loved to see the horses.
I still miss my grandparents. They were a major part of my memories as I grew up.
