September 16: Herman Horton, about 37 years old , president elect of the Eastern Kentucky Education Association and county superintendent of the Carter County schools, died this morning at the Stovall hospital in Grayson, following an illness of six weeks.
Mr. Horton, for more than twelve years closely connected with the educational program of Carter county, had been ill for four weeks of blood poisoning when penumonia developed and he was removed to the Stovall hospital here. His condition became critical and he died this morning at 11:30 o'clock.

He was to have taken this office in July but illness prevented him from doing so. During his engagement in the educational life of his community and county Mr. Horton had been very respected by all who knew him. His unexcelled work to keep Carter County's schools among the highly rated will be praised for years to come.
