Rose Shadwell, 73 of Effingham, Illinois passed away at Evergreen Nursing and Rehab Center at 8:10 a.m. March 23, 2009. She had only been a resident there 5 days. She had been diagnosed with inoperable lung cancer around a year ago, and decided she wasn't going to go through all the treaments, and pain of chemo. The cancer doctor told her she only would have possibly a year either way. Well her year was just what she had.

She was born February 17, 1936, the oldest daughter of Orville Allen "Sy" Childress and Ellen Berniece "Blondie" Grubaugh Childress in Loudon Township, Fayette County, Illinois.
Rose was married to Robert Dale Shadwell, who preceded her in death in 2007. She is survived by her son, Dennis Frank Shadwell, Gulfport, Mississippi; her daughter, Marsha Lynn (Harold) Kingery, Portage, Indiana. Also surviving are two sisters: Juanita Jane Paddock, Dillsburg, Pennsylvania, and Janet Kaye (Ronald) Channel, Lebanon, Illinois; one brother, Marvin Francis (Jean) Childress of Millersville, IL; one grandson, Devon Shadwell of Gulfport Mississippi and one granddaughter, Kacey Richards of Arizona. Also surviving are numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews & cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents.
Per her wishes, her body was cremated with her ashes buried at Kaskaskia Cemetery, rural Fayette County, Illinois.
