Henry Elmer Benberg
Henry Elmer Benberg, a former Lewis county resident, died Sunday, Oct. 7, at his Tacoma home. He was 88.
He was born May 10, 1913, in White Sulphur Springs, Mont., to Elmer and Hannah (Larson) Benberg.
Benberg worked for a variety of employers, including the Puget Sound Naval Shipyard in Bremerton, as well as for Blakely and Hout Lumber Co., and Tufts Mill, both in Chehalis. A master wood craftsman, he retired from Tacoma Door and Sash in 1979.
Among his religious affiliations were Bethel Assembly of God, Chehalis; Open Bible Standard Church, Centralia; and, most recently, Christian Faith Center, SeaTac.
A member of the Washington State Rhododendron Society, Benberg loved gardening, fishing, hunting and clam digging.
In February of 1935, Benberg married Ardetta Hoaglund. She died in 1942. Benberg was also preceded in death by three sisters, Johnette Benberg, Irene Peters, and Mildred Drewry.
Survivors include a son, Donald Benberg, Tacoma; three daughters, Betty Knutson of San Jose, Calif., Donna Drewry of Kalispell, Mont., and Linda Phillips of Rochester; three brothers, Lloyd of Storm Lake, Iowa, Edwin of Portland, and Tom of Atlanta; a sister, Ruth Lentz, Gnadenhutten, Ohio; and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Remembrances may be donations to the American Red Cross Disaster Fund or to the American Heart Association.
Visitations will take place from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday at Sticklin Funeral Chapel, Centralia, which is in charge of arrangements.
A graveside service for Henry Elmer Benberg will begin at 11 a.m. Tuesday in Mountain View Cemetery, Centralia, with the Rev. Robert Beckman officiating.
