Funeral service for Howard S. Carr age 83 of Springview August 14 at the United Methodist Church in Springview. Burial in the Mt Hope Cemetery in Springview. He passed away August 10 at Parkside Manor in Stuart.

Howard Silsbee Carr was born March 4, 1924, to Frank Hope and Edna Silsbee Carr on his homestead southeast of Springview. He died Aug. 10, 2007, at Parkside Manor in Stuart from complications of Alzheimer's Disease.
He attended rural grade school District 28 and graduated from Keya Paha County High School in 1942.
He was active in choir, band, sports and dramatics. He excelled in basketball, baseball and track and was a member of the 880-yard relay team that placed second at state in Lincoln his senior year.
After attending the University of Nebraska one semester, he enlisted in the U.S. Air Force in 1943 and served mostly in Texas before being discharged as an Aviation Cadet in November, 1945.
He was married to Caroline Bothwell June 4, 1945 and to them a son Dennis was born in 1947 and a daughter Teresa in 1951. Caroline was killed in a plane mishap April 15, 1955.
On July 5, 1956, he married Kaye Moore at Papillion. Kaye's daughter, Becky, joined the family by adoption in 1959. Daughter Julie was born in 1960. Howard made his home in Keya Paha County continuously until he became a resident of Parkside Manor in 2004.
He was a self-employed rancher most of his life and also worked for the National Farmers Organization and Moorman Feed Co. until his retirement in 1983.
As a member of the United Methodist Church since 1959 he served the church in numerous offices and was a choir member for more than 30 years.
He was involved in organizing the Four Corners Rod and Gun Club, was instrumental in building the Keya Paha Scale Yards and the Community Truck Scales, was a board member of KBR Extension Board and the NRD Board during the time the curb and gutter project was implemented in Springview.
He served as a director of the O'Neill Reclamation Board until 1990, served on the RC&D Council, KPHS Board of Regents and Historical Society. He was a 48-year member of American Legion Post 98 and served as the bugler several years.
Howard was very proud of Springview and served in many organization. He took pride in clearing vacant lots, mowing and removing snow for many elderly neighbors and friends, for which he received the AkSarBen Good Neighbor Award in 2001. He was an observer for the National Weather Service for 10 years.
His interest in sports both as a participant and a spectator involved him as a high school bus driver and basketball referee, and he enjoyed card games with family and friend. Following his retirement he continued to volunteer in the community and became a model train enthusiast.
Preceding him in death were his wife, Caroline, his parents and a son-in-law, Kevin Foster. He is survived by his wife, Kaye, of Springview; a son Dennis (Barbara) of Sleepy Hollow, N.Y.; three daughters: Teresa (Greg) Bammerlin, Mills; Becky (Jack) Finegan, Lincoln, and Julie Foster, Broken Bow; seven grandchildren: Chera Bammerlin, Chana Orton, Alicia Bammerlin, Preston and Lyndsey Foster, Sarah and Joe Finegan; two great-grandchildren, Caitlin and Raden Orton; sister Shirley (Richard) Schoettger, Omaha; and other relatives.
