Charles Thomas "Tommy" Irvin, 49, of Appomattox, died on Saturday, July 9, 2011 at his residence. He was the husband of Tammy Irby Irvin. Tommy was born in Lynchburg on July 5, 1962 a son of Juanita Watson Mitchell of Altavista and the late Charles Rupert Irvin.
In addition to his wife and mother, he is survived by four daughters, Kari, Morgan, Taylor and Kristin Irvin all of Appomattox; two grandchildren, Kayden and Brayden Cousins; one brother, Roger Irvin (Sharon) of Appomattox; two sisters, Sharon Ramsey (Patrick) of Forest and Tammy Trent (Jamie) of Evington; stepfather, Lennie Mitchell, Jr. of Altavista; two step-sisters, Julie Bryant (Jeff) of Rustburg and Crystal Mitchell of Mebane, NC; step-grandmother, Kathryn Mitchell of Altavista and numerous nieces and nephews including a special nephew, R. D. Irvin.
Tommy was a member of New Hope Baptist Church and worked as a heavy equipment operator. He was a "die hard" UVA fan, loved NASCAR racing, and had served his country as a member of the U. S. Army.
A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, July 16, 2011, at Robinson Funeral Home by the Rev. Jerry Childress. Burial will follow in Evergreen Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 7:00-8:30 p.m. on Friday, July 15, 2011.
