Sarah Cone Chilton Times September 21, 1912
Many of the older inhabitants of this vicinity will be grieved to learn of the death of Mrs. C. G. Cone which occurred on Tuesday night at the home of W. E. Barber at Green Bay after a brief illness. Mrs. Cone was in fairly good health until Sunday morning when she was stricken with paralysis and gradually grew weaker until death came.
Sarah Potter was born in Elmira, N.Y., June 30, 1837 and remained in her native home until she was married to the late Coradon G. Cone in 1858 when she came to Chilton and located on a farm one mile north of this city. In 1864 she resided a short time at Menasha. In 1869 when Mr. Cone received an appointment in the treasury department at Washington, D.C. she accompanied him to that city remaining there three years and then returning to Chilton.
In 1880 she again accompanied her husband to Washington and remained there until his death on Feb. 26, 1903 when she returned to Wisconsin and lived with her son, George, at Spruce, Oconto County, until 1905 when she went to Portland, Oregon, to make her home with her son, Thomas. In August of 1911 she returned to Wisconsin and resided with her son, George at Shiocton.
Some three weeks ago she went to Green Bay to visit at the Barber home and while there passed away. Mrs. Cone was a woman of intelligence and as popular with all who knew her. Her death will be a shock to old friends and neighbors.
The remains were brought to this city on Thursday afternoon and taken from the train to the family lot in the Breed cemetery. She is survived by two sons, George of Shiocton and Thos. of McMinnville, Oregon.
