Harvey C. Bush, Jr., 84, of Cranberry-Rockland Road, Kennerdell, Cranberry Township, died in the early morning on Friday, December 31, 2010, at St. Vincent Hospital in Erie.
Born February 27, 1926, at home in Oil City, he was a son of the late Harvey C. Bush, Sr. and Bernice Moyer Bush.
Mr. Bush was a 1944 graduate of Oil City High School.
He served in the U.S. Navy in 1944, during World War II.
Mr. Bush was an advisory board member for the UPMC Northwest Foundation.
He was an active and devoted member at the Rockland United Methodist Church for many years, where he served as youth group leader, Sunday School superintendent, and lay speaker. Mr. Bush was a certified lay leader and preached at the Domer Chapel in Smith Corners during the 1950s.
In 1999, he participated in a mission trip to Flagstaff, Arizona, where he assisted the mission team in constructing buildings on an Indian reservation.
Mr. Bush enjoyed attending bible studies and prayer group.
He was employed in his earlier years as a bread and milk delivery man, working for Country Bell and Mong's Dairy. He was a co-owner with his wife in the Montgomery Ward catalog store, which they operated together for many years in Seneca. He was later employed in the security and maintenance departments at OMG Chemical in Franklin, and retired from there.
Mr. Bush was married at the Rockland United Methodist Church by Rev. Bernard Himes on October 4, 1947, to the former Betty J. Jordan, who preceded him in death on November 26, 2010.
Surviving are two sons, Harvey C. "Butch" Bush, III and his wife Dorothy of Sugarcreek village, and Phillip Allen Bush of Castleberry, Florida; two step-grandchildren, Buffy O'Dell and husband Ronald of Cooperstown, and Stacy Fike and husband Dave of Franklin; and four step-great-grandchildren, Ronnie, Emily, and Abby O'Dell, and Branden Fike.
In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Edward and Donald Bush.
Friends will be received Tuesday (Jan. 4th) from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. in the Hile-Best Funeral Home, Inc., 2781 Rte. 257 in Seneca, Cranberry Township.
Funeral services will be held in the funeral home Wednesday (Jan. 5th) at 11 a.m. with Rev. Linda Dinger, pastor of Rockland United Methodist Church, officiating.
Interment will follow in Rockland Cemetery.
