John Barnes, 85, 415 West Broadway, died Friday afternoon at 4:20 at an Enid hospital following an illness of about two weeks.
Barnes, a retired real estate broker, came to Enid four years ago from Texahoma where he was engaged in the real estate business. He was also an ordained minister and was quite active in assisting in church revivals and meetings.
He was a member of the First Baptist church in Enid and beclonged to the Masonic lodge.
Survivors are his wife, Maggie, of the home, one son, Fred J. Hoskins, Spearman, Texas, two daughters, Mrs. Dana McKinney, Artesia, Calif., Mrs. Clara Jones of Terre Haute, Ind., two brothers, Fred Barnes and Dale Barnes of Anderson, Indiana and eleven grand children and for great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Sunday in the First Baptist church with Rev. B. M. Jackson in charge. Burial place will be announced after.
The Fossett-Schaeffer funeral home is caring for the body.
Note: John Randolph Barnes was born in Parke County, Indiana on 17 Jun 1857, the son of Cornelius Monroe "Roe" Barnes and Mary Adams. He was first married to Mary Elizabeth Garrigus and then Dana Dooley. He was also preceded in death by a daughter, Carrie M. Barnes. His daughter, Carrie, and his first two wives are buried at Adams Cemetery, near Rosedale, Indiana.
