ANDREW VANCE, PIONEER OF TEHACHAPI IS DEAD

Andrew Vance, for over twenty years a resident of the Tehachapi district, died at his home in Tehachapi Wednesday afternoon. Death was not wholly unexpected as the deceased had been in very failing health during the past two years. He was surrounded by his entire family.

Mr. Vance was born near Aleado, Ill., on the 12th day of November, 1846, 69 years ago. He came to California with his family over twenty-five years ago and resided first at Los Angeles. After two years in the southern city he moved to Tehachapi where he has since resided. During his residence in this district Mr. Vance has been engaged in farming and cattle business. Of more recent years he has devoted considerable attention to contracting and team work. He always took an active part in all matters pertaining to the welfare of the town and county and at the last general election was a candidate for the office of supervisor from this district.

Funeral services were held at the family residence on curry street Thursday afternoon, Rev. Creighton of the Presbyterian church at Bakersfield officiating. The services were very impressive and many friends were in attendance to pay last tribute. The remains were laid to rest in Garlock cemetery.

Besides the wife, Mr. Vance is survived by a daughter, Miss Maud Vance, and four sons, Roy, Harvey, Robert and Louis, all residents of Tehachapi.
