The son of Gershom & Elizabeth (Merriman) Todd, he married (1) Marry Tuttle on April 19, 1748 and (2) Phebe Brown on January 22, 1775.

History of Hamden, Conn., p. 200-201 Asa Gilbert was on the muster roll of the 17th Military Co. in the 2nd Reg. of Militia as a private. He was killed in action when the British forces under Gen. Tryon invaded New Haven on July 5, 1779.
