The son of Tom & Dessie (Copp) Baker, Richard attended Unity Grade School and Guymon High School. He served in the U.S. Navy for four and a half years, after which he attended Panhandle State University. While attending college, he opened the "Pizza Cellar" in Guymon. He then attended OSU School of Veterinary Medicine in Stillwater, OK specializing in equine medicine. While there, he married Cindy Hohweiler in 1965 and to their union was born two daughters, Kimberley Rae and Heather Renee.
Dr. Max, as he was called by his colleagues, was a well-respected equine veterinarian at racetracks in Raton, NM and Hot Springs, ARK.
He is survived by his wife and two daughters, two sisters, and a brother.
Dr. Baker was welcomed to heaven by his parents, grandparents and many other family members.
Services will take place at 10 a.m. Saturday at Caruth-Hale Funeral home in Hot springs, ARK. Interment will take place at Elmhurst Cemetery in Guymon at 10 a.m. on Monday, Aug. 7. The family will greet friends before and after the service at Bunch-Roberts Funeral Home in Guymon.
In lieu of flowers, the Baker family request donations to the Voice of the Martyrs.
His grave is located in the section between 500 St. & 600 St. and between E St. & F St.
