Helen M. Birkmire, a resident of the Eastwood Manor Nursing Home, Commerce, died at 11:05 a.m. Friday, April 12, 1996, at the nursing center after a long illness.
She was 86.
Mrs. Birkmire was born June 14, 1909, at Hillsdale, Kansas and moved to Miami several years ago.
She had formerly worked for the Miami Hotel and several of Miami's restaurants as a cook.
She later worked as a house keeper for many people in Miami. She was a member of the First Christian Church of Miami.
Survivors include a sister, Mrs. Catherine Perkins, Olathe, Kansas and three nephews, Roger Gleidt, Little Rock, Ark, Warren Gleidt, Fairland, and Sam Gleidt, Olathe.
She was preceded in death by a daughter, Marina L. Birkmire on Nov. 5, 1987.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday, April 15, at the First Christian Church Chapel with Minister Leon Weece officiating.
Burial will be in GAR Cemetery, under the direction of the Cooper-Althouse Funeral Home of Miami.
Pallbearers will be J.R. Huxall, Darrell Simmons, Harlin Brewer, Charles Coyne, Homer Johnson and Don Schertz.
