Daughter of KENNERLY DOBYNS (DANGERFIELD4, SAMUEL3, CHARLES2, DANIELI),b abt 1821,Montgomery Co. VA, and his first wife, ESTHER ANN GROSECLOSE, whom he married, 24 Mar 1854, Johnson Co IN.

They soon moved to Cambridge, Union Twp., Story Co IA, and after many years of hospitalization in Mt. Pleasant, IA, Esther died in Dec. 1872.

One month after Esther's death, Kennerly married, in Jan. 1873, Mary Eliza Kelso, a Cherokee, and the housekeeper. 2 years later they moved to TX. Both died the same day of yellow fever in 1888.

Many of the orphaned children left for the Chickasaw Nation, Indian Territory, to work on the cattle ranch of a family friend, Holmes Willis.

Ella's siblings, all born in Story Co., were:

John Jacob, b @1857; md Mary J. Dobbs, 23 Dec 1904, Leigh, Choctaw Nation,In Terr.

Elizabeth C., b Oct 1859; d aft 1889; md a Mr. Barnett; and as Bettie Barnett, in 1900 census, is listed as living with brother,Thomas, Chickasaw Nation, In Terr.

Thomas Jefferson, b 27 Mar 1864, almost 8 when his mother died.

Martha Elmira "Mattie", b 23 Oct 1866, who was almost 6 when her mother died. (Married John Marion Jaye.)
