The son of Thomas & Sarah Catharine (Stump) Berrier, he married Margaret Davis and fathered Sarah Catherine (b. 12/25/50), Lydia E. (b. @1854), Margaret A. (b. @1856), Magdalena (b. @1858), Mary Barbara (b. @1861 - married Martin B. Hopple), Martha (b. 02/15/62 - married William H. Lay), Drucilla (b. @1864), and Jacob (b. @1865). In 1860, he was a wagon maker living in Toboyne Township, Perry County, and stood 5' 9" tall with dark hair and brown eyes.
A Civil War veteran, he enlisted in Patterson [?] August 31, 1864, mustered into federal service at Harrisburg September 2 as a private with Co. C, 208th Pennsylvania Infantry, and honorably discharged with his company June 1, 1865.
