Mathias Agy was the eldest son of John and Lydia Griffin Agy. He was born in Guernsey County, OH. In March 1867 he married Sarah Jane Moore who was born March 10, 1845 in Ripley County, IN. He was the father of 2 children, Charles Bennet Agy and Amanda Jane Agy Allen. Mathias was in Company B, 126th Illinois Infantry and mustered out in 1865 as a corporal on 7/12/1865. Mathias had the following brothers and sisters: Joshua Hardesty Agy, Harrison Clay Agy, Lucretia Jane Agy Welburn, Arthur R. Agy, Sarah Frances Agy Springer, Samuel Thornton Agy, George Alexander Agy, and half-sister Ruth Elmira Bird Parker.
