Son of John Francis & Mary Ann (Byrne) Donahue, he was one of 9 children born to them. Gene married Theresa Ann Dugan on November 11, 1911 in O'Connor, Greeley Co., Nebraska and to there union were born 8 children.
Gene later became a farmer in O'Connor, Nebraska. He lived and worked on 80 acre farm. All his children graduated from St. Joseph's Academy in O'Connor except his youngest Monica, she graduated in Los Angeles, California. Gene also farmed 160 acres in Brayton, Nebraska, three miles south of O'Connor.
Several years of drought, forced him to move to Los Angeles, California in 1943 where he became a supervisor in the Long Beach ship yards.
After the war was over he was a carpenter for several years and worked for Kaiser Construction Company, building many tract homes, after an accident at the age of 65 he retired.
