Services for Dr. James H. "Doc" Adams Sr., 82, of Mayfield will be at 3 p.m. Tuesday at Byrn Funeral Chapel. Dr. Charles Parker will officiate, and burial will be in Maplewood Cemetery with military graveside rites conducted by the American Legion Post 26.
Dr. Adams died at 1:39 a.m. Sunday at Western Baptist Hospital.
Doc was raised on the southside of Paducah where he survived the flood of 1937. He graduated from Tilghman High School in 1939, where he was a member of the 1938 state championship football team and was selected for the all state team.
He attended Murray State University and later graduated from the University of Louisville Dental School and opened his practice in Mayfield in 1946.
In 1951 he was called to service and served with the 176th Field Artillery Unit stationed above the 38th parallel in Korea.
Upon his return from service he resumed his practice until retirement in 1992. He was President of Southwestern Dental Society from 1963-64.
Surviving are two sons, Dr. James H. Adams, Jr. and John Wyman Adams both of Mayfield; one daughter, Amanda Adams Korfhage of Central City, Ky., and five grandchildren.
Friends may call between 5 and 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
