Ruby V. Chewning, 83, of Dallas City, Ill., died at 7:29 p.m. Friday, Sept. 29, 2000, at Great River Medical Center in West Burlington.
Born Jan. 20, 1917, in Meredosia, Ill., she was the daughter of Maurice and Emma Nunn McLain. On May 16, 1936, she married Burnell Chewning in Palmyra, Mo. He died March 30, 1984.
Mrs. Chewning worked for the Iowa Army Ammunition Plant in Middletown for many years.
She lived most of her life in Dallas City. She was a member of the First Christian Church.
Survivors include two daughters, Dixie Schroeder of Fort Madison and Sue Fish of Dallas City; one son, Thomas Chewning of Fowler, Ill.; 11 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; one brother, David McLain of Oregon; four sisters, Dorothy Thornburg of Lady Lake, Fla., Virginia Clark of Roseville, Ill., Josephine Miller of Dallas City and Gloria McBride of Nauvoo, Ill.; and several nieces and nephews.
Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by one brother and one grandson.
Visitation will begin at 3 p.m. Monday at Banks & Beals Funeral Home in Dallas City.
The graveside service for Mrs. Chewning will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday in Harris Cemetery, near Dallas City.
A memorial has been established for Lomax Ambulance Service.
