Gregory W. Gadd: Man wrecks, dies later

A Marion man is dead after he crashed his van into an apartment building at 1020 W. Delphi Pike at about 12:30 a.m. Sunday.

Marion Police Officer Kyle Young said two witnesses were standing on the porch of their apartment building, when they saw a van coming toward them at a high-rate of speed. They said they heard a horn honk two or three times, Young said.

The van then jumped the curb, went up onto the grass and struck the concrete porch of the apartment building. The building sits where Third Street jogs right and becomes Delphi Pike before becoming Second Street.

The driver of the van, Gregory W. Gadd, 30, last known address 616 N. Lancelot Drive, was taken to Marion General Hospital by ambulance and was later transported to Parkview Hospital in Fort Wayne, where he was pronounced dead at 3:39 a.m.

Coroner Stephen Dorsey said Gadd died from multiple blunt force injuries. He does not know if alcohol or drugs were factors, but toxicology tests are pending, he said.

Young said the two witnesses were hurt while trying to get out of the vehicle's path. One witness hurt his ankle, while the other witness complained of body pain, he said. The witnesss' names were not known at press time.

The accident is still under investigation, Young said.
