Delbert Sedrick Wood, son of Orin and Ida May (Townsend) Wood.

Delbert Sedrick Wood married Effie Elaine Rifenbery (1920-1993).

Delbert Sedrick Wood, 38, of 1134 Monroe Street, dropped dead at his home at 7:05 p.m. Thursday.

Wood was preparing to take his daugter to a junior high school football game, when he became ill. The emergency ambulance was called and a doctor, but he died almost immediately. He had been in normally good health, and had had no warning of any heart condition. The doctor attributed death to a heart attack.

Wood was an employee of the hog kill department of John Morrell & Company.

He was an adult leader in the Ottumwa baseball program for boys. He had managed a team for two years, inaddition to participating in other adult leadership. He managed the Lions Club Athletics fot the Babe Ruth baseball program.

He was a veteran of World War II, serving from February 1, 1945, unitl January 39, 1946. He served in the Asiatic-Pacific theaters and received the meritorious unit citation.

He was the son of Orin and Ida May Townsend Wood, born in Wapello county, February 8, 1918. He had lived here all his life.

He went to work for John Morrell & Company when he was 16 years old and worked there much of the time until January 1, XXXX, when he began continous employment.

He married Elaine Ashmead July 15, 1937, in Lancaster Missouri. She survies. They have two sons, Tommy, who is a senior in high school and Jim who is a sophomore in high school, and three daughters, Judy, Nancy and Debbie Jo, all at home. There are two brothers, John C. Draper of Ottumwa and Lambert Wood of Brunswick, Michigan, and two sisters, Mrs. Eunice George of Moline and Mrs. Blanche Wood of Newaygo, Michigan. His parents, one sister Ruth Wood, and one brother, Floyd Draper, preceded him in death. His brother died June 5 of this year.

Funeral services will be at 3:00 p.m. Monday at the Johnson funeral chapel. The Reverend Kenneth Rosse of the Open Bible church will be in charge. Burial will be in Shaul cemetery. Pallbearers will be Warren Cox, Bob Long, Norman Frost, Junior Fowler, Charles Bates and Don Hampshire.
