Mr. Eckelkamp was born June 11, 1930, in Washington, the son of Raymond Eckelkamp and wife Marie, nee Yenzer.
He received his education in Washington and graduated from St. Francis Borgia Grade and High School.
Mr. Eckelkamp served his country in the U.S. Navy from 1949-1953 during the Korean War.
On April 19, 1952, he was united in marriage to Marilyn Lefarth at St. Ignatius Church, Concord Hill. They made their home in Washington and moved to Krakow in 1965.
Mr. Eckelkamp worked as an electrician. Most of his career was spent as co-owner and general foreman for Eckelkamp Electric Company, Washington.
He was a member of St. Gertrude Church, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2661, American Legion Post 218 and Knights of Columbus Seisl Council 1121, Knights of Columbus 4th Degree.
Once retired, he enjoyed volunteering at St. Gertrude Parish, traveling, boating and spending time with his family.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Jerome Eckelkamp; one sister, Geneva Witthaus; one daughter, Linda Marie in infancy; and one grandson, Michael Bennett in infancy.
He is survived by his wife, Marilyn; four sons, Terry Eckelkamp, Thomas Eckelkamp and special friend Gwynne, Eric Eckelkamp and wife Danette and Edward Eckelkamp and wife Michele, all of Washington; four daughters, Karla Bennett and Elaine Schmitt and husband Glen, all of Marthasville, LuAnn Cooper and Evon Bishop and husband Todd, all of Washington; 22 grandchildren, Ryan Bennett and wife Rene, Adam and Kayla Bennett, Amber and Cody Eckelkamp, Jeannae Eckelkamp, Mariah and Lauren Cooper, Erin Glastetter and husband Jeremy, Katie, Kelly, Jonathan and Joseph Schmitt, Morganne, Monica, Molly and Madeline Eckelkamp, Alicia, Emily and Abigail Bishop, Samantha and Hannah Eckelkamp; three great-grandchildren, Ava, Grace and Aiden; two sisters, Betty Bueker and husband Robert and Jane Rembusch and husband Dwaine, all of Washington; three brothers, Charles and wife Dorothy, William O. and wife Eleanor and Gene and wife Dixie, all of Washington; one brother-in-law, Wilbert Witthaus and wife Dorothy, Washington; nieces; nephews; other relatives and many friends.
Funeral services were held Thursday, July 15, at St. Gertrude Catholic Church, with Father Bernard Wilkins officiating.
Burial was in the church cemetery.
Memorials to St. Gertrude "Renewing the Tradition" are preferred.
