Rev. Theron Wyndell Long, age 75, of Douglas passed away Monday, August 1, 2011, at the Coffee Regional Medical Center, following an extended illness.
Rev. Long, a native of Appling County, was a Southern Baptist Minister for many years. He was an Alumnus of the Freewill Baptist College of Nashville, Tennessee.
He was the son of the late Doric Quitman Long and the late Ola Evelyn Carter Long. He was also preceded in death by a brother, Wyndell Long. Rev. Long was a member of the College Avenue Baptist Church.
Survivors include: His Wife of 58 Years: Betty Jean Teston Long of Douglas, Ga. 1 Son: Steve Long, and wife Susan of Colquitt, Ga. 1 Daughter: Jeanie Sweat, and husband Leonard of Douglas, Ga.
1 Grandson: Ashley Stephen Long, and wife Brooke of Forsyth, Ga. 3 Granddaughters: Courtney Coppage of Valdosta, Ga. Megan Wiggins, and husband Brady, and Maggie Adams, all of Douglas, Ga. 3 Step-Grandchildren: Kristy Sweat of Pensacola, Florida, Kaci Sweat of Macon, Ga., and Kandace Sweat of Athens, Ga. 5 Great-Grandchildren: Jayden Wiggins and Jaycee Wiggins, both of Douglas, Ga., Hannalee Coppage of Valdosta, Ga., Ella Kate Long and Makayla Ford, both of Forsyth, Ga., Aunt: Velma Kirk of Baxley, Ga. Several Nieces, Nephews, Friends, and Other Relatives.
Funeral Services were held Wednesday, August 3, 2011, at 1:00 P. M., at the College Avenue Baptist Church, with Rev. Don Harper, Rev. Luther Burns, and Rev. J. E. Blanton officiating. A Special Eulogy was presented by the daughter, Jeanie Sweat.
The Interment followed in the Surrency City Cemetery, in Surrency, Ga.
Active Pallbearers were: Tommie Little, Donnie White, Justin White, Gene Mann, Tim Adams, and Dan Jacobs. Members of the Congregation served as Honorary Pallbearers. Special Musical Selections, an Instrumental "Amazing Grace / My Chains Are Gone", presented by a grandson, Ashley Long. "I Will Rise", presented by the Soloist, Archie Rish, with taped music. "Pre-Lude" and "Post-Lude" soft hymns including "Beautiful Garden Of Prayer", "Just Over In The Glory Land", "When The Roll Is Called Up Yonder", and "What A Day That Will Be", were rendered by the Pianist, Shirley Kimbre. Ricketson Funeral Home was in charge of the Arrangements.
