Andrew Randolph Kilpatrick was the son of John Henry Kilpatrick (b.1834, d. 1897) and Tabitha (Holbert) Kilpatrick (b. 1838, d. 1900). He was married in 1890 to a Louise Marple Sharp.
Together they had eight children: William Randolph Kilpatrick (b. 1890), John Henry Kilpatrick (b. 1892, d. 1918), Mildred Louise Kilpatrick (b. 1894), Mary Bower Kilpatrick (b. 1896, d. 1986), Helen Estella Kilpatrick (b. 1899, d. 1924), Edgar Burton Kilpatrick (b. 1901, d. 1904), Andrew Randolph Kilpatrick Jr. (b. 1903, d. 1904), Earl Dickenson Kilpatrick (b. 1906, d. 1988).
