Death Claims Popular Man
George W. Pettigrew, Well Known Resident Of Reno, Victim Of Pneumonia
"George W. Pettigrew, died at his home, 1042 South Virginia Street, yesterday afternoon after a brief illness. Pneumonia was the cause of death. The deceased was a native of Gardnerville, age 47 years. The body will be shipped to Gardnerville for interment Tuesday.
Deceased leaves a mother and two sisters (Manta Jane and Ida M.)at Gardnerville, two brothers, Judge Pettigrew of San Diego (CA) and A. (Andrew) J. Pettigrew of Reno, and a bereaved wife, also of this city.
He was a prominent member of the Odd Fellows, Elks and Eagles and was a man well known throughout the state and popular with everyone.
The Pettigrew family were among the first to come to Nevada, his mother and father arriving here in 1850, making the trip across the plains in an ox team and settling in what is now Douglas County."
