Jesse Poppino, a native of Ohio, moved from Ohio to Iowa to Illinois and later settled in Grundy County, Missouri, where he lived for nearly forty years. He married Mary Catherine Dixon Sept 1865/66 in Iowa County, Iowa. They had nine children: Amanda (died age 5 months), Daniel, Maude (died in infancy), Laura (Millwood), Della, George, Minta (Nigh), Flora (Nigh), and Ellis Burton.

Jesse was a veteran of the Civil War. He was a resident of Iowa County when he enlisted as a Private on 9 Oct 1861 at the age of 21. He mustered in Co H 4th Iowa Cavalry on 26 Nov 1861. Re-enlisted and re-mustered 10 Dec 1863. Mustered out 8 Aug 1865 at Atlanta, Georgia.

Jesse, one of the oldest residents of Spickard, Missouri, suffered from stomach and heart trouble for many years. Cause of death on his death certifiate was stomach ulcer. He died in 1917 at the age of 76 years 7 months 29 days.
